Warm greetings from Plett
Well, Early September, Plett was Spring cleaned with lots of rain!
Up to 155mm of rain was measured in some parts of Plett. We had one day of schools closed and some of our team members claimed that swollen rivers prevented them from coming to work on that Monday. As the rain and subsequent rise in river levels coincided with Spring high tide there were some expectations of a repeat of the 2007 floods.
We did keep an eye on homes near the rivers and are happy to report that nothing untoward happened.
It did provide for good photo opportunities.
Now, we are gearing up for the Festive season and Plett will be booming again.
If you plan to visit us during October then Plett will feature the Plett Wine and Bubbly Fest, the Tour De Plett Mountain Bike Tour/Race as well as the Plett on a Platter Festival.
The birding route is also under development and we hear about some exciting “slak packing “ hiking trails As well. Slack Packing means that you only carry wht you need during the hike that day. All other luggage is taken to your overnight stop.
The local Tourism Board is working hard to make Plett an even better year round destination.
When a new activity opens then invariably people ask us “what it’s like”. So when we got the opportunity to experience one first hand Eric and Susan decided to risk their lives, just to give you the following report. For us it’s all in a day’s work.'
Explore your Spirit of Adventure and go Climbing and Abseiling in beautiful indigenous surrounds, this is truly a thrill that can only be explained once you have done this. You will be in absolute awe to discover this part of Plettenberg Bay that even we did not know existed. AfriAbseil takes safety very serious and not once did we feel unsafe. The guides take you to the starting point where you climb along a ledge using staples in the rock and ladders whilst securely attached to a security cable. Once you reach the top of the finger you are hooked up to the abseil ropes and descent 50m straight down into the kloof. The climb out is at your leisure along a path with steps to assist you. This is something we can recommend and is a must for every adrenalin junky! They can be contacted on 044 533 534 8055 / 082 323 4349 / email@example.com / www.afriabseil.com
In the next newsletter Ursula and Cynthia will report on their bungy jumping adventure.
Other developments in Plett include the upgrade of both our SPAR shops and they are starting to look very nice and the construction of a banking mall at the Market Square. The author notes the loss of some parking bays to accommodate the new development.
Come see us soon there is always something happening
